child soldiers...
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I have been doing an english seminar on child soldiers and I honestly did not think I would become so emotional about this. This is absolutely insane. These people actually haave no hearts do they? In Sierra Leone a few years back, they said they were fighting for freedom. FREEDOM? Who was going to be free exactly? All the citizens were dead because of them! Killed by them! Killed by the children THEY recruited! And now Congo is going through the exact same thing, so is Darfur. And what are we doing here? NOTHING. No one knows about it! AH North America is actually the worst place to live because you become so un-informed about the things going on in the world! There are so many organizations trying to help these kids and possibly get them out of these armies. MAybe even end the genocide?? Who knows, maybe a miracle will occurr and people will stop thinking killing other people violently is the answer to everything. (sarcasm)
All these children, even after they are rescued have so much left to deal with. They tend to have violent tendencies, dreams of what they've done and seen, and find it very difficult to open up to anyone ever again. The trauma they face will never go away and here my friends and I are, complaining about the amount of homework we get. I just hate how we all think our life is all there is! Its not! Even I have a hard time understanding that sometimes and I know that its true. I can't imagine what it would be like to realize that if I didn't.

Sweatshops
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

So most people around the world know of sweatshops right? Well how is it that most of my friends have no idea what i mean when i scream out sweatshops. My friends walk into the room, donning their hollister sweaters and their abercrombie shirts. Why am I the only one who sees the countless number of hardly paid women and children all over the seams? Why am I the only person who hears the girl my age in China wonder where her friend disappeared to after demanding a pay raise? Am dellusional or is everyone else blind and deaf?
For the 7 years I have lived in Canada, I have observed the materialistic lifestyle we are styled to live. Cheaper clothes means a lower step on the heirarchy of class. Anything not from Abercrombie, Hollister or American Eagle is deemed to be cheap and unwanted.
The issue of sweatshops has expanded as these stores have expanded. And yet there are people who are pro-sweatshops. I would like to suggest they, themselves, go in place of one of the workers in a sweatshop and see how they feel after a month or even a week.
Industries have long exploited the people of the developing countries. I am going to try a boy cott of all sweatshop using stores which will be hard because I know almost all huge stores have sweatshops. This will definitely be a challenge but its one I am ready to take on! How does everyone else feel about sweatshops?

War
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

This world is absolutely insane. Why is war the only way to solve a problem?? Have we not evolved enough to make reasonable decisons yet? Why do we have violence in this world? It all began because of the superiority complex. Most men possess it because they think they are better than most others and they should be listened to insdtead of the other. They believe what they say is right and always try to one-up the other. This is what created this social darwinism in society. The need/hunger to be better than everyone else and being proud of it. Men have held their heads up high as the leaders of the world and just look where they have lead us. Instead of working together to solve world problems, we are all in competition with each other. The United States, one of the most powerful countries in the world right now, is clearly abusing that power. Bush, someone who I have no respect for, has lead the country into war blindly and now has the entire world debating about it. How can one country cause so much turmoil? Well, with Bush at its head, they can and have caused disaster. Why else do you think the world is in such chaos and can't seem to co-operate? In my opinion, it is because of the terrible examples world leaders have set. Without them acting greedy and selfish, how would we be able to congregate and all act greedy and selfish? Without the leaders of the world, we have no union and because our leaders are so corrupt, our world is damaged to the core.
Isn't greed a fabulous thing? Power, money, and fame is all that matters in this world now and somehow everyone has to learn to deal with it. Great... do we get a choice in that or is that entire decision up to Bush? What if we don't want that power, money or fame? Most probably, we will be isolated from the rest of the world. Society is stuck in a rut and people like Bush are digging in deep and getting ready for the winter. So who will help get the world out of this power hungry rut? Who knows...
